A few months ago here - sorry no index yet, there are several initial riffs - rather analytical, of the great sin in the false narrative within The Salt Path. I lived literally on that path for two years until recently - in my little tin can meandering various coastal parkups.. and walking 1000s of km back and forth sections for exercise and actual soul food... I have spoken with 100s of fellow walkers of that Path, almost all female. As is the readership of that book. The false victimhood that Mother Theresa Winn claims in her book #37 in bestsellers of last 50 years if memory serves me, so angers many. As she really was their beyond reproach Ma Theresa... however a certain inevitable co-writer seems entirely absent from justified calling out of THEIR scandalous lies....
BUt that's not my own real beef as this book is part of a stable of similar books that have grown in just these kinds of rural places over the last 20 years. Each one just as much a subtle fantasy, or worse...
It may be rather pedantic, but real journalism may have rather broadened the subject of false books by some or other member of this large band of the 'usual suspects' (to anyone who had the missfortune of having to live in communities where they developed their gig). There are indeed a range of books - non fiction (all a real fiction when it comes to whichever faux hero or heroine they may purport to tell the story of), that grew all around this same theme park faux 'heroism'. I watched many of them over the years..
And by far the very worse example is the Ian Marchant book. To those not familiar with him or the book he almost pioneered the selling of the theme park - via his BBC salary doubtles not insignificant, which segued into further profiting from said theme park.... (also repeated in various 'nature' books that originated out of exactly the same ...clique)
A book by a man certainly given great kudos by his long BBC broadcasting career, which inevitably would have been influential in getting this suposed 'bible' on the counterculture commissioned, whilst living in Presteigne - an upcoming Guasrdian Reading nuveau bohemian incommer gated community, whilst that same community developed over the last 15 years a serious drug problem people like MArchant should have actually been in the vanguard of broadcasting locally on how to mentor the many younger people destroed by the very drugs in his bible, he as good as condones.
The vehicle character he chose Mr Rowberry could just as easily be some shabby exotic user in a cowboy hat living in any of the bohemian theme park towns of Cornwall from Gweek to Porthleven down the coast where a born and bred woman friend of mine spoke of the scourge of hard drugs that destroyed her own family. Or any of The MArches towns over the last few decades.

There are many of these mainly men who jumped on the 'counter culture' in one way or other publicly setting themselves up as all round goody goody - for profit, in areas such as The Marches (Hay-on-Wye Presteigne Brecon etc) or Cornwall who simply have nothing useful to say ever about the scourge that is destroying the lives of many younger men in such regions.
